Here's my portrait of Rebecca, who has diligently showed up every Saturday morning to sit. She has an intelligent and quiet presence, and her complexion is a harmony of warm and cool colors. We've been working for four weeks, and the class is making progress working live and alternately at home with photos. She has a unique and attractive countenance. She's a writer.
This is typical of a four-color painting; its charm is tone. Nowhere did I use the full strength of any paint, not even black -- oh, yes I did, for the pupils; they're black, but the black used elsewhere is just thin glazes, thicker on the hair. Yes, we use black!
